Research Interests: Large-scale tropical ocean dynamics, ocean-atmosphere interaction, climate variability associated with El Niño, sea-going measurement programs, modeling, and theoretical studies

Other Affiliations: Senior Research Scientist at Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory/NOAA, Director of Tropical Atmosphere-Ocean Array (TAO), participant in Climate Variability and Predictability (CLIVAR) and other international climate programs, and Senior Fellow of the Joint Institute for Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean (JISAO)
