Degree and date

Research Interests:

• Investigating biogeochemical cycles using unusual biological compounds as bio-markers, with a current emphasis on UV-absorbing compounds.
• Elucidating the processes generating and slowly transforming seemingly recalcitrant organic matter and the chemical alterations rendering dissolved organic compounds resistant to microbial degradation.
Understanding the nature and dynamics of the low molecular weight DOM pool in various environments (e.g. estuarine systems, deep ocean DOC pool).
Combining traditional, compound specific analytical approaches with innovative new methods capable of visualizing the secondary structure of intact molecules, primarily through recently developed mass spectrometric techniques.
