Explore the field of oceanography and the bachelor's degree programs we offer. Our undergraduate degree provides a robust understanding of oceanography plus the opportunity to expand studies and research in any of these four areas of emphasis:
Our undergraduates are provided with a rich experiential learning environment. Three of our core courses have field research components, and our undergraduates spend considerable amounts of time in hands-on oceanographic settings. There is no better place to learn how to be an oceanographer than to be out on the water. Seniors conduct independent research projects using the best equipment and facilites available.
Currently, ~100 students are enrolled in the undergraduate Oceanography program, 60% of whom are women. All Oceanography classes are taught by our faculty, in many instances classes are taught in teaching teams. As class size averages 23, students work closely with faculty members and have the opportunity to interact with some of the field's leading scientists.
One great aspect of the fact that our oceanography research teams are strong is that nearly all undergraduates who wish can find appointments in research labs. This affords a great opportunity for additional education about ocean research.
